Eligibility

Q: Can international students work part-time while studying in Taiwan?

Yes. Overseas Chinese, Hong Kong, Macau, and international students are legally allowed to work part-time in Taiwan once they have obtained a Work Permit. According to regulations, you must apply for and receive this permit before beginning any employment.

  • Insurance Regulations: Employers are required by law to enroll student employees in Labor Insurance (students are responsible for a portion of the premium).

Work Hour Restrictions

Once your work permit is granted, you may legally work in Taiwan, provided you adhere to the following limits:

  • During the Semester: A maximum of 20 hours per week.
  • During Winter & Summer Breaks: No weekly hour limit applies during these periods.

⚠️ Important: Penalties for Violations

Working without a valid work permit is a serious violation and carries the following penalties:

  1. Fines: Between NT$30,000 and NT$150,000.
  2. Residency Status: You may lose your residency status and be required to leave Taiwan immediately.

How to Apply

Applications are processed exclusively through the online system.

Please submit your application via the Ministry of Labor (MOL) website: EZ Work Taiwan” – Application for Foreign Professional Work Permits.

Work Permit Validity

  • Maximum Duration: Permits can be issued for a maximum of one year per application.
  • Expiration Date: The permit usually remains valid until September 30th of the current year (provided you apply after completing registration for the first semester).
